Graduated from Melbourne University!

Getting my bachelor’s degree in Communication and International Politics from the University of Melbourne was a journey that required dedication, hard work, and perseverance. I pursued an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in high school and decided to apply to universities in Australia, where my older sister lives. I was thrilled to get accepted to three universities: Monash, the University of Melbourne, and one in Perth. After much consideration, I chose the University of Melbourne and took a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and International Politics.

However, I didn’t realize how much writing would be involved in the program. Based on my past records and essays, I wasn’t confident in my writing abilities. Nonetheless, I chose Communication because I have a talent for reading the room, situation, and people. I wanted to learn more about the different platforms we use to communicate. International Politics was also a subject that interested me, especially because it was during Trump’s presidency. The discussions in class were fun and thought-provoking.

Although I started in 2017, what was supposed to be a three-year program ended up being longer than expected. Balancing academics and personal life was a challenge, and it took me longer to finish my exams than my classmates. When my classmates graduated on time, it was a heartbreak for me. I was happy for them, but I also felt left behind. However, I used this time to reflect on myself and to push myself even further. Finally, I attended my overdue graduation on August 2022, which coincidentally falls on my birthday. I was there celebrating with my friends and family, and I’m so grateful for them. I definitely couldn’t have done it without their love and support. Everything happens for a reason.

The delayed graduation gave me a chance to celebrate my achievements and reflect on my journey. I am proud of myself for persevering through the challenges and staying committed to my goal. Writing was a significant challenge for me, and it’s not uncommon for students to struggle with certain aspects of their academic pursuits. However, I improved my writing skills over the years, which taught me valuable skills such as critical thinking, time management, and research.

Looking back on my academic journey, I am grateful for the experience of studying in a different country. The choice to study abroad in Australia, specifically Melbourne, reflects my adventurous spirit and willingness to step out of my comfort zone. Pursuing higher education is a significant milestone that requires dedication, hard work, and perseverance. The skills and knowledge I gained from my program can be applied to various fields, and the experience of studying in a different country has broadened my perspective on life.

In conclusion, my journey of getting a bachelor’s degree in Communication and International Politics from the University of Melbourne was a testament to my perseverance and passion for learning. It was a unique and inspiring experience, and it’s a story worth sharing. I hope my story inspires others who are embarking on their academic journeys, and it’s a reminder that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
